22-26 September the relics of St Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio) are returning to St Mary’s Cathedral.
In the saints, the ‘Church recognizes the power of the Spirit of holiness within her’; she ‘sustains the hope of believers by proposing the saints to them as models and intercessors’.

In these challenging times in which we live we hear with hope the church’s teaching that ‘the saints have always been the source and origin of renewal in the most difficult moments in the Church’s history.’ (CCC 328)

The relics of St Pio connect us physically with the life of the saint and witness to his being conformed to Christ in his Passion. They are witnesses to his sanctity.
